Global phenomenon Carmilla began as a web series produced by Shaftesbury in partnership with executive producer U by Kotex®, and was a scripted transmedia series that put a modern spin on the cult classic gothic vampire novella by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu.

Expanding the Carmilla story world, Carmilla was turned into a feature film in 2017. Carmilla follows the adventures of university student-turned-journalist Laura and her girlfriend, vampire-turned-human-turned-vampire again Carmilla, who turned Laura’s world upside down when she moved into her dorm room.

In this primetime adaptation, Carmilla’s all female clan of vampires is being hunted by an order sworn to destroy these mortal women. While seeking refuge, brooding bad ass and reluctant camp Carmilla Karnstein meets upbeat, keen journalist Lara Hollis. Sparks fly, and the the couple must struggle with everyday realities of their interspecies relationship – while investigating the dead of a common friend.
