Slasher (TV and VR)

Slasher, an eight episode, one-hour psychological thriller series, stars Katie McGrath (SupergirlJurassic WorldDraculaMerlin) as Sarah Bennett, a young woman who returns to the small town where she was born, only to find herself the centerpiece in a series of horrifying copycat murders based on the widely known, grisly killings of her parents. As the murders escalate, long-buried secrets are revealed, making everyone around her a suspect…or a victim. Sarah finds herself questioning everything and everyone around her, including her husband Dylan (Brandon Jay McLaren, Ransom, Graceland), her grandmother Brenda Merritt (Wendy Crewson, Saving HopeRevenge), family friend Cam Henry (Steve Byers, ReignThe Man in the High Castle) and the town’s police chief, Iain Vaughn (Dean McDermott, Ecstasy, CSI).

Slasher wrapped production in Sudbury, Parry Sound, Ontario in October 2015. The series premiered on Chiller in the U.S. and Super Channel in Canada in Spring 2016, and is currently available on Netflix (including U.S. and Canada). Content Media is distributing the series. Slasher was nominated for 5 Canadian Screen Awards in 2017.

“With Slasher, I wanted to tell a modern-day monster story – but instead of a mythological creature, the ‘monster’ in our series is all too human,” said Aaron Martin, creator, writer and executive producer, Slasher. “Humans have a limitless propensity for good… and, sadly, for evil. Slasher is able to tap into a very deep well of the darker side of human nature, in the same way that one of my favourite authors, Agatha Christie, spent a lifetime writing about human crimes.”

Additional Slasher cast include Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Enuka Okuma (How to Get Away With Murder, Rookie Blue), Erin Karpluk (Rookie Blue, Being Erica), Patrick Garrow (Pure, Killjoys), Christopher Jacot (Rogue, Eureka), Mayko Nguyen (KilljoysCracked), Rob Stewart (IncorporatedKilljoysSuits), Hannah Endicott-Douglas (Good Witch), Shawn Ahmed (MsLabelled, Paranormal Investigators), Jessica Sipos (Dark Matter, UnREAL), Jefferson Brown (The Perfect StalkerRookie Blue), Mark Ghanimé (ReignHelix), Dylan Taylor (PureRogueCovert Affairs), Booth Savage (Mr. D.), Victoria Snow (TakenCra$h & Burn), Sabrina Grdevich (Kim’s ConvenienceSkins) and Rainbow Sun Francks (EyewitnessMurdoch MysteriesThe Listener).

Developed and produced by Shaftesbury in association with NBCUniversal’s Chiller, Slasher is written and created by Aaron Martin (KilljoysBeing Erica) and directed by Craig David Wallace (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil). Aaron Martin, Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie are executive producers. Casting by Stephanie Gorin. Content Media Corporation is the distributor. Slasher is funded with the participation of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the COGECO Program Development Fund, the Bell Fund, Music and Film in Motion/Federal Government of Canada, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit.
