Production has commenced on Season 10 of one of Canada’s most beloved and longest-running dramatic series, Murdoch Mysteries. Coming off its highest-rated season yet on CBC as the country’s top-rated homegrown scripted program for the 2015/16 television season and marking 150 episodes in Season 10, the series will continue to follow Detective Murdoch and the heroes of Station No. 4 as they solve crimes inspired by Canadian history and featuring international celebrities of the early 20th century.

Mar 30 2016 - How RBC brought its millennial series to life with Shaftesbury’s shift2 and Smokebomb

From Strategy: Canada’s biggest bank went for entertainment over the hard sell with V Morgan is Dead. A root canal is pretty awful, but for millennials, it’s actually preferable to talking to their bank. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s part of the reason RBC undertook its branded content project, V Morgan is Dead. The 20-part web series on YouTube, led by Shaftesbury, shift2 and Smokebomb Entertainment, is about a 28-year-old woman who dies suddenly but is given the opportunity to work toward a second chance at life by helping others find their own life paths. Launched last fall, the series wrapped up earlier this month after gaining an engaged fan base. At BCON Expo 2016, RBC provided some insights into how its foray into millennial entertainment helped boost its brand.

Jan 26 2016 - Shaftesbury & Teletoon join Gulli in support of Squish

Paris-based indie Cottonwood Media has signed new development partnerships with Toronto-based procdo Shaftesbury and Corus Entertainment’s Teletoon Canada for its 52 x 11-minute animated comedy, Squish. In addition, French kidsnet Gulli has turned its existing development deal for the series into a pre-buy for all digital and broadcast rights in France. Aimed at kids six to 11, and based on a comedic graphic novel series by bestselling children’s author Jennifer Holm and creator Matthew Holm, Squish follows the life of a young amoeba that is looking to survive in the cutthroat world of single-cell organisms.
